Joseph J. Hoffman, Partner, Governmental Services Department
Joseph J. Hoffmann brings over 35 years of governmental accounting experience to
his clients. Joe served as chairman of the Governmental Services Department for
six years and as the managing partner of the Firm for nine
years. He is licensed to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in New Jersey and is
a licensed Registered Municipal Accountant and Public School Accountant. He received his B.A. in Business/Accounting from
Rutgers University in 1971.
Experience: Joe has a depth of governmental agency
and not-for-profit accounting and auditing experience, including Single Audit Act requirements. He
has served as
appointed auditor for many municipalities, school districts and other governmental entities. In addition, Joe frequently consults on complex governmental
initiatives. For instance, he provided a present value evaluation of
the pros and cons associated with the State's offering of an early retirement incentive program; consulted on streamlining and saving costs by dissolving several municipal water districts and combining of their functions with
the fire district; and consulted
on a
infrastructure acquisition plan to reduce the costs of providing water. Joe
has presented before the BRC (formerly
the BPU) to set municipal water rates and provided testimony as an expert witness with regard to beach
badge fees charged by New Jersey shore communities.
Membership in Professional and Civic Organizations: Joe is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants, the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants and The New Jersey Registered
Municipal Accountants' Association. Additionally, Joe has served on the Governmental Accounting and Auditing
Committee of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, as President of the Southwest
Jersey Chapter of Certified Public Accountants, member and chairman
of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants’ PAC and has served on various other committees of the Southwest
Jersey Chapter and the State Society of CPAs. Joe served on the board of the Berlin Athletic Association for fourteen
years, eight as President. He also
served for two years as Chairman of Berlin Cub Scout Pack 55.
Joe resides in Berlin with his wife Christina and one of their three children.
